| Boys' Night Out in the Afternoon (Paperback - New) |
| |
Full blurb:
Through much of Boys' Night Out in the Afternoon Tim Wells displays the candour and swagger of a barroom raconteur, with his ear for dialogue, the knack of a great punch line and a sure knowledge of what underlies his material. His lines though consistently stretch out beyond the anecdotal, betraying his true craft and vision as a poet. Here, for every irresistible fictional narrative, of nights bowling with supermodels or days carousing with Tallulah Bankhead, there is a stark and self-deprecating love lyric or a pantoum capturing rain-lashed downtown Los Angeles. Wells' poetry homes in on human manners and foibles. Tim Wells is witty, acute and unashamedly lowbrow.

Author: Tim Wells
As the long-time editor of the all mouth and trousers poetry magazine Rising, Tim Wells is tough on poetry, tough on the causes of poetry. His own work as a poet and performer has seen him touring the US (a dozen times), translated into German and Chinese, working as a guest poet on Radio London and supporting The Libertines with his 'Cockney Hell' poetry show. He is a regular contributor to the Illustrated Ape and Nude magazines, a one-time housemate of Buster Bloodvessel, founder of the group Poets with Gout, reggae music lover and regularly trades poetry for fine tailoring.

“This paragon of man shows no clemency in verse that excites, entertains, delights and jump-starts your cerebral cortex like an Iggy Pop feeding you a Semtex aspirin.” – Phill Jupitus
