Manifesto
Since it began in October 2007, Beat the Dust’s goal has been to promote writing with something important, bold and different to say. The litzine, BTD TV and Beat the Dust Bookshop, have each played a role in helping talented writers from the literary underground get their words out into the world where they belong. Beat the Dust Press continues the work of the litzine, vid channel and bookshop. Its aim is to breathe new life into literature and help writers who may have been overlooked, get their voices heard above the white noise of the bland, beige and boring books that dominate the bestseller lists.
Beat the Dust Press joins a growing global network of small indie publishers. As with everything BTD does though, the Press is gonna try and do things differently. With each of its publications, a rule or convention associated with writing, publishing or design will be broken in some way. Beat the Dust Press is in the business of creating books that:
- refuse to be pigeon-holed
- grab people’s attention
- define the times in which we live
- are brave and not afraid to rattle the cage
- challenge the “craft” of writing and push the boundaries of the subjects being written about.
Beat the Dust Press is about real writing for real people that tells it like it is.
Beat the Dust Press is an example of writers doing it for themselves. It’s run by a writer and operates in collaboration with other writers.
Beat the Dust Press hand-picks the writers it works with; writers with a proven track record of challenging the literary status quo.
The first publication out now on the Beat the Dust Press label is a short fiction anthology called Protest! It’s a collaboration between three writers – STEVE FINBOW, MELISSA MANN and JOSEPH RIDGWELL
